The newest, and final, trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past has just been released, whetting our appetite even further for what looks to be an epic battle for the mutant's — and humanity's — survival.

Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) plays Bolivar Trask, the mastermind behind the giant robots he calls Sentinels, who threaten to destroy humankind. The Sentinels are so well designed that it's only by teaming up with their past selves that the mutants even stand a chance at winning the war against them.

Watch the first X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer >>

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) leads the mission to unite mutants across two time periods in a bid to destroy the sophisticated robots once and for all, joining together characters from the original X-Men film trilogy with their younger selves from the past, X-Men: First Class.

It's no easy task, but if we've learned anything from his spin-off films (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine), it's that Wolverine never takes no for an answer.

Fans of the franchise will be excited at the promise of seeing two versions of Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy) and two Magnetos (Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender) working together on-screen.

Also reprising their mutant roles are Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Halle Berry as Storm and Nicholas Hoult as Hank, aka Beast, ensuring quite a few scene-stealing moments. Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore return as Kitty Pryde and Iceman, respectively.

First look at Halle Berry's new X-Men costume >>

It's not all familiar faces, however. Newer characters shown in the promo include Blink (played by Bingbing Fan) and Warpath (played by Booboo Stewart).

X-Men: Days of Future Past is directed by Bryan Singer and opens in theaters nationwide on May 23, 2014.

Hugh Michael Jackman was born on Oct. 12, 1968, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. In 1991, his last year at university, he took a drama course to make up additional credits and fell in love. Since then, he has garnered Academy Award and Screen Actors Guild nominations and has won a Golden Globe, People's Choice Award and an Emmy.

Talent

It is hard not to just write out a laundry list of all of this man's credits. Not only is he a phenomenal film and television actor with an impressive résumé, but he is also proficient in musical theater, plays the piano and is a producer and a philanthropist. He is reprising his role as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past and has a number of projects lined up this year. He has joined the cast of Lee Daniels' next film about Martin Luther King Jr., he is set to play the villain, Blackbeard, in Pan (about the history of Peter Pan and Captain Hook) and he is returning to Broadway this fall to appear in the new play The River.

Trivia

  1. When he first started out and was studying acting full time, he was offered a role in the popular soap opera Neighbours, but he turned it down to attend the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
  2. Before he became famous, he worked as a birthday party clown and a gas station attendant.
  3. He was offered the role of James Bond in 2006's Casino Royale, but due to scheduling conflicts, the part went to Daniel Craig.

Fitness

He stays very active with yoga, dance and sports, but when becoming the clawed mutant, he sticks to a 6,000 calorie-a-day diet to bulk up. No stranger to training for a part, he also practiced wrestling for the film Van Helsing.

Kindness

Jackman is a vocal supporter of many different charities. He is heavily involved with Microcredit (which offers loans to entrepreneurs in poverty-ridden countries); he is the global adviser of the Global Poverty Project and actively supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, The Art of Elysium, Operation of Hope and Charity:Water, to name a few.

Pets

The family has a dog named Dali.

Intelligence

He graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney with a B.A. in Communications, but after taking a drama course to make up credits and playing the lead in his class' play, he said he "felt more at home with those people than I did in the entire three years [at the university]."

Commitment

He met Deborra-Lee Furness on his first TV gig — an Australian show called Corelli in 1995. The couple married in 1996 and have adopted two children, Oscar and Ava.

Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender was born on April 2, 1977, in Heidelberg, Germany. Although it seems like he just jumped into stardom during the past few years, he has been acting since he was 17 years old. He worked his way up the ladder and bartended, delivered mail and auditioned like crazy until he got his first role in a major film, 300, in 2006. Like his X-Men co-star, he has a long list of honors to his name, such as Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations, and he has won Screen Actors Guild, AACTA, BIFA and Broadcast Film Critics awards.

Talent

Like Jackman, his résumé is filled with projects we know, love and admire. He is also returning to X-Men as Magneto; he completed production on the western Slow West; he formed a production company called Finn McCool Films, where they are developing a film about a mythological Irish hero; and he is co-producing and starring in the film adaptation of Assassin's Creed.

Trivia

  1. He speaks German fluently.
  2. He is a huge Formula 1 racing fan.
  3. His nickname is Fassy.

Fitness

He lost 30 pounds to play Bobby Sands in the film Hunger. He works out with a personal trainer and his diet plan varies, depending upon his movie roles.

Kindness

Everyone seems to have nice things to say about him: that he is a hard worker, perky, dedicated and kind. He also visited a school for the deaf with Ryan Gosling a couple of years ago and through their attendance raised $22,000.

Pets

He commented that he is fairly selfish with the amount of hours he puts into his work, so he has no pets at this time.

Intelligence

He attended St. Brendan's College in Ireland and moved to London to study at the Drama Centre London when he was 19. He dropped out to tour with the Oxford Stage Company's presentation of The Three Sisters.

Commitment

He claims his longest relationship was two years. The rumor mill has run wild as to who his girlfriends have been — everyone from his 12 Years a Slave co-star Lupita Nyong'o, to Gerard Butler's ex, Madalina Ghenea, to Zoë Kravitz, Rosario Dawson and the newest rumor, supermodel Naomi Campbell. It took him a moment to become famous; maybe it's just taking him a moment to find true love, too.

Man Candy Monday: Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender isn't a beefy muscleman. He's not hyper-masculine. He doesn't have long, flowing Samson locks or a super-hetero beard. But we want him. So badly. Like, now.

This stud strips away our inhibitions

Who is this guy, and why are we so attracted to him? Good question, actually. True, we watched him strip down to nothing (yes, nothing!) in the sex thriller Shame and spank Keira Knightley while playing Carl Jung in A Dangerous Method. Now, he's made the leap to inarguable leading man in the summer blockbuster Prometheus. But despite his previous roles, one very specific thing speaks volumes about Michael Fassbender: In what is probably the most ringing endorsement of anyone's sex appeal ever, he's on many fans' short lists to play Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Yep. He's sexy, all right.

Why we love him

This Irish-German fox snuck up on us after a series of minor roles in major films. And we're so glad he did!

Michael Fassbender

Born: April 2, 1977

Hometown: Heidelberg, Germany

Height: 6'

His sex appeal is so raw, it's almost scary

"Really Michael, honestly, you can play golf like this with your hands behind your back. Go for it, man, do it!"

Getting an eyeful of Fassy's generous package in Shame caused quite the stir among filmgoers — even George Clooney, who remarked at the Golden Globes, “I would like to thank Michael Fassbender for taking over the frontal nude responsibly that I had. Really Michael, honestly, you can play golf like this with your hands behind your back. Go for it, man, do it!"

But the size of what he has to offer isn't the sole reason why we find Michael so attractive. The way a man carries himself — particularly this man — goes farther toward stoking our imagination than physical endowment. (Also, what exactly is it about his eyes that makes him so hypnotizing?) Still, we're not exactly, um, disappointed by what he's packing.

GQ asked him what he makes of all of the fuss over that very specific body part of his:

"It's fun to a point... and after a certain point you worry that it kind of detracts from the movie. But there's nothing I can do. I just have to laugh it off. I can. Pretty much. Because I take my work seriously but I can't take myself too seriously. I'm in such a crazy privileged position — s***, this is the pinnacle of the dream when I was 17... Nobody wants to hear really how difficult it is."

Pardon us while we let the idea of a well-endowed, attractive and humble man wash over us. Ahhhh.

Michael Fassbender

He might take on the character of Christian Grey

A few very vocal Fifty Shades of Grey enthusiasts won't rest until Fassy is cast as Christian Grey in the tale's film component. There's even a Facebook page titled "Michael Fassbender for Christian Grey."

Tell us: Who do you think should play Christian Grey? Share your pick in the comments below!

Says one fan about Fassy's potential to be Grey: "Christian Grey is a man filled with demons from a dark past. He is best left to the one man who could play him without resorting to cliché or textbook acting techniques. Fans want a Christian who is bold, damaged and believable. It’s a task for Michael Fassbender. No pretty boy will do."

He plays superheroes as well as he does academics

He breathed life into the comic book character Magneto in last year's X-Men: First Class, and he's currently saving the planet onscreen in the sci-fi flick Prometheus. But he's also lent us an indelible image of psychoanalyst Carl Jung and embodied a sex addict named Brandon in Shame.

“I must admit — I initially thought it might be fun," he told W about Shame. "You hear ‘sex,’ and you think… sex! But this was definitely the hardest job I’ve done. I can usually shake a character off, but I couldn’t shake Brandon. He had no sensual enjoyment in his life, and since we filmed the movie so quickly, I found myself living in his skin. Keeping him close to me was exhausting, cold, horrible. As Brandon, I never ate. He had one container of Chinese food in his fridge. All that sex and he didn’t have any pleasure.”

“That sad container of noodles tells you more about Brandon than any nudity.”

"That sad container of noodles tells you more about Brandon than any nudity."

We love it when our pieces of man candy come infused with a little bit of depth.

Michael Fassbender's relationship status:

Nicole Beharie and Michael Fassbender

Dipping his pen in the company ink, Fassbender recently said he is now dating his Shame costar, relatively unknown actress Nicole Beharie, 27, known for her roles in American Violet and The Good Wife.

But forget any notion of clandestine meetings after shooting: "Nothing happened while we were filming," he told GQ. "We started talking more on the promotion thing. So, yeah, it just sort of unfolded like that."

Nothing like a nice romantic surprise after a bout of hard work.

Top 5 summer celeb hookups we'd like to see

Prince Harry and Blake Lively

Prince Harry and Blake Lively

We know she’s firmly in loved-up relationship mode with cutie Ryan Reynolds, but can you just picture the queen’s face when she opens the paper one morning to see the headline, Blake Lively caught sneaking out of Prince Harry’s window? OK, the queen probably doesn’t know who Blake Lively is, but she and Harry would be a fun summer fling simply based on the fact that they’re evenly matched esthetically, and she’s about as all-American (and as far from British upper crust) as you can get.

Michael Fassbender and Demi Moore

Michael Fassbender and Demi Moore

The Hollywood hot commodity is still riding high from his critically acclaimed performance in Shame, and he received rave reviews for his role in the deep space flick Prometheus. So basically, he’s riding high. Demi needs a pick-me-up. Her career has been on the downturn for a while, and let’s not forget the embarrassment Ashton Kutcher caused her when his cheating ways were splashed all over the tabloids. He’s hot; she’s still got it -- it’s a fling made in summer heaven. Not to mention how great these two would be for gossip.

Zac Efron and Taylor Swift

Zac Efron and Taylor Swift

Swift was burned by John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal in the past and she kind of, sort of, went on that one date with Taylor Lautner. She’s been linked to a few others, but before she falls in love again, we think she needs to cleanse her palate with a good, old fashioned summer fling. Why not Zac Efron? They’re both adorable, around the same age and like the two most popular kids in school. It just makes sense for them to hook up.

4

Halle Berry and Colin Farrell

Halle Berry and Colin Farrell

She’s been with Olivier Martinez for a while, but should that abruptly end in the next few weeks, we think Colin Farrell would be a great choice for a hot summer hookup. He’s changed his playboy ways, while she seems to have amped up her craziness in the past few years (after her ugly split from model and baby-daddy Gabriel Aubry), so these two might just balance each other out. Plus, they’re both ridiculously good looking.

5

Leonardo DiCaprio and Scarlett Johansson

Leonardo DiCaprio and Scarlett Johansson

This one might seem out-of-the-box, but that’s exactly what a good fling should be -- something you might not have expected. She might be dating some advertising dude and he’s got a new model on his arm (shocking), but we think these two would be a great hot weather hookup. They’re matched in looks and pedigree, plus she probably still needs to shake off the ick-factor from last year’s brief dalliance with Sean Penn and who better to help than DiCaprio?

3)  Jane Eyre with Mia Wasikowska & Michael Fassbender on Netflix

Mr. Rochester's (Michael Fassbender) dark secret will send chills down your spine as he falls for the modest and unassuming Jane (Mia Wasikowska). The young Alice In Wonderland actress truly knows the art of restraint and makes this version of Charlotte Brontë's romantic tale quietly powerful.

4) World War Z is available on Netflix June 13

Need a zombie fix? We recommend getting it while staring at the hunky Brad Pitt. But he's not even the best part of this thriller — the action is amazing. The filmmakers looked at the way the human body moves when it undergoes an epileptic seizure to inspire the weird, jerky convulsions seen in these zombies. They also give the film a sense of epic doom by making it a global crisis, shooting in several countries and instilling the feeling of a true apocalypse.

Each year after the dust settles from awards show season, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gets back to work and invites new members to join their exclusive club. On Thursday, the Academy announced its 271 invitees who were extended membership this year.

The basis for inclusion on this list is for artists and executives who have distinguished themselves with "their contributions to theatrical motion pictures." Each candidate is sponsored by a current Academy member in their respective branch. The applications are reviewed each spring.

Get ready for Oscars 2015: Date, producers announced >>

In a statement, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said, "This year's class of invitees represents some of the most talented, creative and passionate filmmakers working in our industry today. Their contributions to film have entertained audiences around the world, and we are proud to welcome them to the Academy."

In the Acting branch, Lupita Nyong'o, June Squibb, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins and Barkhad Abdi were easily included due to their nominations this year. Other interesting names added to the list were Chris Rock, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Clark Gregg, Jason Statham and Josh Hutcherson. While all three actors have an extended body of work, only Rock has a connection to the Oscars since he hosted the show in 2005.

VIDEO: Jennifer Lawrence was totally wasted at the Oscars >>

The music branch is getting a few notable names this year, including Pharrell Williams, who was nominated for his song "Happy" from Despicable Me 2 as well as Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. They won the Oscar for their massive hit "Let It Go" from Frozen.

The new members will be welcomed with a special reception at the Academy in September.
